VDO is one of the world leading suppliers of electronics, electricity of
automobile industry: fuel pumps, fuel level sensors, idle air control
valves, throttle valves, throttle control valves, washer pumps, washer
injectors, cooling fans, boot gears etc.
The company VDO was founded in 1920 by Adolf Schindling (Frankfurt,
Germany). In the short terms company managed to became the largest supplier
in the world of tachometers and tool kits for cars and trucks.
Since 1966 VDO started to supply tools on aftermarket in the Northern
America. In 1977 VDO set the plant in Winchester (USA), thereby, encouraging
the other German companies to follow their example.
In 1991 the concern Mannesmann acquired the company Philips VDO. In 1998
Mannesmann VDO AG acquired the company Philips Car Systems. In 1999 after
the absorption of the company Mannesmann by the company Vodafone Airtouch,
VDO and other non-telecommunicational companies owned by the concern
Mannesmann were separated and sold to the companies Siemens and Bosch.
In 2000 Siemens Automotive (Europe) acquired the company Atecs Mannesmann
VDO. In April 2001 the division was renamed in Siemens VDO Automotive. The
merging ended in the USA in January 2002.
The company VDO executes conveyor supplies for such well-known producers
as VW, Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Peugeot, Citroen, Opel, Skoda, Seat.

In July 2007 Siemens sold the division Siemens VDO Automotive to the
concern Continental AG for 11.4 mlrd. Euro.
Since the 3rd of December 2007 the enterprise Siemens VDO Automotive AG
is completely integrated in Continental AG.
